Redundant Main Installation to Safeguard 1M+ Gallons/Day Supply During Major Reconstruction
June 26, 2025
Currently with the reconstruction of Cork/88th Ave, Archer, and 79th Street JWSWC has a 20” water main which is a key asset to the distribution system and is located in front of Damar Funeral Home. This water main is responsible for distributing over a million gallons a day to the City of Hickory Hills and all the residents south of 79th Street and is currently in the center of all construction. The JWSWC staff is consistently on a “watch and protect” system and onsite anytime there is work or excavation around this water main. The JWSWC has been working diligently to find a redundant supply in the event that this water main is damaged or must be interrupted. With hard work and collaboration, we have now successfully made an agreement to install this secondary 16” water main behind Damar Funeral Home! The property owners who have been great to work with and are building a large gas station at this location and have granted JWSWC easement and furthermore are entering into a cost sharing agreement to install the water main.
Bids will be released soon, and the bid opening is May 2nd, 2025
